Domaine Majas – Organic Wines from Roussillon, Crafted by Alain & Agnès Corrièr

Lady luck holds her cards close to her chest.

Alain & Agnès Corrière are the proud owners of Domaine Majas, situated in the picturesque Caudiès-de-Fenouillèdes terroir at the foothills of the Pyrenees in Roussillon. Inheriting over 30 hectares of vines on exceptional, mountainous-classified land, Alain and Agnès faced challenges as decades of bulk wine production by previous owners led to stressed vines and low-quality yields. Supermarket wines and co-operative sales had taken their toll.

But in a twist of fate, their meeting with Tom Lubbe, a natural wine guru, sparked a dramatic shift. Instead of following the conventional route, the couple decided to embrace natural wine-making methods. From that point, the road was far from easy – it took a decade of hard work, grafting, and perseverance to revive the land and restore the vineyard to its former glory.

Today, Domaine Majas produces wines that exemplify their core beliefs of organic farming, minimal intervention in the cellar, and a creative blending approach. One prime example is Cortado, a striking wine created with a 50/50 blend of Grenache and Carignan, combining direct pressing (like a rosé) and a short 2-day maceration. The result? A wine that's fresh, bright, and mineral, with a slight tartness that’s perfect when chilled. It's a natural reflection of Alain and Agnès' philosophy: wines with vibrant energy, expressive character, and an unmistakable sense of place.

The vineyard’s altitude of up to 600 meters and the fierce Tramontane winds bring balance to the sun-drenched grapes, which grow in soils rich with schist, volcanic stone, and limestone. With an average age of over 100 years for many of the vines, Domaine Majas enjoys some of the oldest vines in the region. The local climate and the diversity of the soils help provide an exceptional flavour profile for their wines, especially as they work with indigenous varieties like Carignan, Grenache, Chenin, and Syrah.
